When hair transplantation is mentioned, the first things that come to mind are the hair transplant before after process and the results. In this article, we will try to discuss both.
Before hair transplantation, individuals generally experience hair loss problems. Hair loss can be classified into two groups: active and passive hair loss. Passive hair loss occurs when the rate of hair loss decreases, and the boundaries of baldness become defined, usually seen in individuals in their late 30s. Active hair loss, on the other hand, refers to hair loss and thinning that are still ongoing, with the boundaries of baldness dynamically expanding. In cases of active hair loss, hair transplantation does not stop or slow down the hair loss. Applying and planning hair transplantation in areas where the boundaries of baldness are clearly defined will make individuals happier in the long term.
Understanding whether baldness is in an active or passive state before hair transplantation provides important information for planning. In cases of active hair loss, baldness of 50% and/or more in the affected area indicates that hair transplantation is warranted. Generally, for individuals experiencing active hair loss at an early age, strengthening the front hairline with transplantation aims to achieve a better image. In cases of thinning in the crown and mid-scalp areas, medical treatments are applied to wait for the hair loss to enter a passive state. Once the boundaries of the passive hair loss become defined, a second hair transplantation session can be planned to almost completely resolve the baldness issue.
Before deciding to undergo hair transplantation, taking a week off for rest will positively impact your recovery. As you know, hair transplantation is a surgical procedure, and every surgical procedure has a certain recovery period. During this period, symptoms such as swelling, pain, tenderness, and itching, which negatively affect the patient’s condition, may occur. Most of these symptoms can be easily managed. The treatment procedures and rest applied after the procedure will help you get through the process comfortably. Within the first 24-48 hours, the areas where grafts were taken almost completely close with the Micro-FUE technique. See an example recovery video on Instagram.
After the procedure, the scabs that form in the transplanted area generally fall off on their own within 10 days with medical washes. After the scabs fall off, the appearance resembles having your hair cut to a number 1 length. See an example 10th-day photo on Instagram.
Once your appearance reaches this stage, you can quickly return to physical activities such as sports and walking. Following this period, with supportive treatments applied after shock hair loss, the hair starts to grow from the 6th month and usually takes its final form by the 12th month. It is recommended not to shave the transplanted area with a machine for 3 months. Machine shaving in the donor area can be done 15 days later.
Important Recommendations Before After Hair Transplantation:
- Allocate 10 days for yourself.
- Be prepared for possible conditions such as swelling during the treatment process.
- Buy disposable bed sheets to lay on your bed and to dry your head after the procedure.
- Get clothes with front zippers to use after the procedure.
- Postpone any travels you have planned.
- Choose a center that is close to you in terms of transportation.
- Inform your doctor about any medications you regularly take and any chronic illnesses you have.
- If you have habits like alcohol and smoking, take a break before and after the hair transplantation.
- Prepare yourself financially for the procedure.
- If you have active gastritis, postpone the procedure until it is completely healed.
- If you have infections such as the flu, cold, or sinusitis, postpone your procedure until you are completely healed.
- Avoid processed and fast-food types of food before and after the procedure. Food poisoning during this period can make your recovery challenging.
- Consuming excessively salty foods after the procedure can increase swelling. Avoid salty and processed foods.
- If you have diabetes, which negatively affects wound healing, ensure your HbA1C and blood glucose levels are within normal limits.
- If you have psychiatric conditions such as anxiety or panic attacks, plan the procedure for a period when you are fully treated and feel well.
- If you work or stay in excessively hot and dusty environments, avoid these places during the recovery period.
